¡Anímate y Ven!
Te
esperamos
con
los
brazos
abiertos.
If you have not yet made it out to the COGAM center (maybe you are not yet in Madrid...or also even if you do come to our meetings!), we invite you to participate in our
new forums
! The first is for people thinking about coming to Spain and interested in their legal options, the other is for discussing life here among the queer immigrant community--the virtual forum of the worldwide queer diaspora.
Who Are We?
We are the group of immigrants who are LGTB, queer, men who have sex with men (MSM), women who have sex with women (WSW) of the Collective of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transexuals of Madrid. We are here to support those who need it and to strengthen and expand the visibility of our community. We know that immigrants who are LGTB, queer, MSM and WSW can be exluded both from their immigrant community here in the diaspora and especially from the Spanish LGTB community. It is for that reason that we work to open up a space of our own within COGAM, within Chueca, and within the Spanish nation-state, through which passes a major part of this largest wave of migration in human history.
Where Are We From?
We are from all parts of the world, and of all sexualities and genders. We are of all ages, and work in all kinds of professions. We span the whole range of lengths of stay in this country, such that we are also of all levels of comfort with the Spanish language, and in all stages of getting used to Iberian culture. In this city which, according to its slogan, is "The sum of all," we seek to truly realize that vision within this global city. Everyone is welcome in our
área
, which is also attended by Spaniards who come in solidarity with our objectives. We know that, with passion and with careful attention to the discourses which single out and oppress minorities along the lines of citizenship status, gender, class, race, sexuality, disability, and more, and keeping in mind historically oppressed populations within this country like
gitan@s
, it is possible to imagine a citizenship which can truly be shared by everyone.
What Do We Do?
We are currently planning the first simposium in Madrid on immigration and gender and sexuality, set to take place in June. We seek presenters as well as attendes, so do not hesitate to contact us with your interest! We are counting on your contirbutions to be able to realize this important step in enhancing our visibility and better understanding the needs of our community.
We are distributing new publicity materials around the city, and we are also supporting those of our community with their projects, which currently include performances being put on to teach a little of our cultures to the people of this neighborhood.
When Do We Do It?
We have a social meeting once a month, y planning meetings as they are necessary. In the long days between our meetings,
we ask you to come and participate in our new forums
!
