Internet has dramatically changed
the way we communicate, as it´s made it easier to meet people for friendship,
sex or relationship. It´s safer than picking up outdoors, however it
also makes some people lose their inhibitions and allows them to adopt
a “second personality”. Find below some tips to consider:
-
Chat or exchange messages and
phone numbers before meeting up. Talk to the person on the phone beforehand.
Do not meet up with anyone who gives their phone number and eventually
gives you a hidden call.
-
Write down on a piece of paper
where you´re going, plus all information you´ve gathered about the
person you´re about to meet (profile name, phone number, real name).
If possible share that information with someone reliable.
-
Negotiate in advance what you
fancy doing, what you´re going to use and where you´re going to do
it. Lay boundaries, respect them and have yours respected.
-
Don´t give anyone your address;
before taking a stranger home, meet them in a public place.
-
Don’t meet up with anyone
who either doesn´t show their face on a picture, doesn´t give you
their phone number or any other usual information. If the person’s
looks don’t fit their previous self-description do not carry on, as
boundaries have already been broken.
-
If someone uses your pics,
threatens or insults you on internet, you must report it. The police
operates a Technological Crime Unit which specialises on investigating
and solving such cases.
-
Take your own condoms, lube
or any other item you may need; this will avoid any unsafe sex situations.
